Erdington is sited approximately four miles (6 Kms) from the city centre serving the suburbs to the north-eastern side of Birmingham. It is also one of the four wards that make up the Erdington Parliamentary Constituency.

The area is largely residential, has a thriving retail shopping centre and very little in the way of industrial development.

Erdington’s centre is clearly defined by the land use pattern. Houses surrounding the High Street area are predominantly from the Victorian and Edwardian eras (1860-1915). The High Street shopping area is very profitable for retailers, it is partly pedestrianised, includes a shopping precinct and two market halls.
