Nechells
Part of the Ladywood district
Nechells lies on the sandstone ridge between the River Rea and Aston Brook (also known as Hockley Brook). Its Anglo-Saxon name was probably atten echels which meant ‘at the piece of land added on’ to an estate or manor.
