Small Heath Library workshop and field recording

November 11, 2014

Category: community

Hello,

On Saturday the 1st of November, I (Sebastiano) held a workshop at the Small Heath Library, presenting for-Wards to a nice group of young members of the local community. The workshop consisted in chatting with them about what they considered important about their area. I asked to identify Small Heath in one word, also to identify one place, and some people. This list will be for me essential in identifying key elements for my composition and to get some inspiration.

We then worked on some maps of the area to identify a walk path where we could capture interesting sounds. Finally, we set off with 4 audio recorders for a walk, when we managed to record a wide variety of sounds, from the busy high street to the noises of the Small heath Park.

All the participants, including myself, had much fun in the process. I now look forward to assemble the audio material captured by the participants, and to compose music inspired by these sounds.
