for-Wards is an ambitious two-year city-wide music project which aims to create original musical compositions inspired by Birmingham’s 40 wards.

Pram (known for their use of unusual sounds including the incorporation of Theremin, toy instruments, other-worldly samples and analogue electronics), are the first to join this ambitious project and will be working with the Edgbaston district areas to create a piece of music reflective of the local community.

“We’re really looking forward to exploring the soundscape of the area with people from the local community to find inspiration. Pram have been using “found sounds” for many years as a way of expanding our music and we all enjoy composing collaboratively. for-Wards is the ideal project for us to develop creatively and we’re sure will result in something exciting and unique.”
Sam Owen, Pram

for-Wards are inviting a variety of composers ranging from different musical styles, to work with local communities and interpret the brief in creative ways that reflect the culture of each ward in which they live. The project raises awareness of the youthful diversity, abundant Birmingham cultures and increases community spirit.

Throughout the two-year project they will be working with a variety of artistic partners and the first to be announced are mac Birmingham and Supersonic Festival who worked together to select Pram as composers representing their wards.

“Supersonic Festival are delighted to be partnering with for-Wards and mac to develop this highly ambitious project. We have had the honour of working with Pram on several projects over the years, and their work never fails to amaze audiences with their inventive approach.”
Lisa Meyer, Artistic Director, Capsule & Supersonic Festival

‘This revolutionary project with Pram will help to ensure local communities across Birmingham experience and enjoy the creative music making process, whilst engaging with first class artists. We look forward to collaborating with this unique and ambitious project over the next two years and hearing the resulting music from Birmingham’s hugely diverse communities.’
